I was the production boom operator, post-production mixer, and foley artist for this piece, and I had an absolute blast being part of it.
Mario had to snap with his non-dominant hand in a few takes and expressed anxiety about them not sounding good.
I told him “Don’t worry, I got you covered,” to which he responded by winking at me and saying “Good looking out.”
After some post-production magic, I think the snaps popped perfectly.
In 2021, I had the wonderful opportunity to produce this podcast alongside some good buddies who I’ve known since high school. The three hosts of the podcast did a thru-hike of the Continental Divide Trail from New Mexico to Canada, and would record episodes along the way. I would then take the raw audio from their recorder, denoise it, and mix it in accordance with podcast standards, adding various sound effects as necessary. In addition to my editing and mixing work, I also played the role of “Camp AV Director” in the podcast, and would record the “Morning Announcements” segment at the beginning of each episode. It was a joy to be a part of this podcast, and it gave me some great experience in working on consistent episodic content on a tight schedule.
I had the pleasure of mixing production and post audio for this piece. Shooting Nick’s performance in one take was a bit of a challenge, especially since we were working on a tiny pier on the Fox River, and we had to deal with relentless trains passing overhead, but I’m very pleased with how the audio turned out.
